1 Killed and 1 Injured in Hawthorne Car Crash on 405 Freeway near Rosecrans Avenue
Hawthorne, California (November 20, 2017) – Stephen Zegler, 65, was identified as the man who was killed in a traffic collision in Hawthorne, Los Angeles, on Friday, November 17.
The fatal three-vehicle collision occurred on the Interstate 405 Freeway near Rosecrans Avenue at about 1:06 p.m.
According to a local news source, Zegler was driving his 2007 Toyota when for unknown reasons, his vehicle crossed the centerline into the opposite lanes and collided head-on with an oncoming 2008 Toyota Camry.
The impact sent the Camry into the path of a freightliner leading to a collision.
Zegler sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Zegler’s passenger, a 34-year-old Orange resident, was injured in the collision and was rushed to a trauma center at a local hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.
None of the occupants of the Camry and the freightliner was injured.
An investigation is ongoing.
