Rebecca Barrasa ID’d as Fontana Teen Killed in Fatal Cherry Avenue Two-Car Crash in Fontana
Fontana, California (January 13, 2018) – A Fontana teen was killed in a two-car crash Thursday night in Fontana, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The victim was identified by the CHP as 18-year-old Rebecca Ann Barrasa.
The fatal crash took place at around 8:41 p.m. Thursday, January 11 at the intersection of Cherry Avenue and Arrow Route.
Troopers stated that a 2014 Nissan Pathfinder driven by Maria Gonzalez, of South Gate, was headed west on Arrow Route approaching Cherry Avenue at a high rate of speed. Meanwhile, an eastbound 2005 Toyota Corolla driven by Barrasa was turning left from Arrow onto northbound Cherry. Both vehicles collided at the intersection and the impact caused the Pathfinder to roll onto its roof.
Barrasa perished in the event while Gonzales and two children who were passengers in the Pathfinder were extricated from the car. Gonzalez suffered major injuries and was shuttled to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center while the two children were taken to Loma Linda Children’s Hospital with minor wounds.
Gonzalez is charged with driving under the influence.
Authorities are investigating the fatal crash.
