Judith Blankenfeld ID’d Woman Killed in Long Beach on 405 Freeway near Lakewood Boulevard
Long Beach, California (April 17, 2019) – 77-year-old Judith Blankenfeld, of Hawaii, has been identified as the woman who was ejected, struck and killed by a vehicle on Monday night in Long Beach, as per a police report.
The fatal crash was reported at around 9:40 p.m. April 15, on southbound 405 Freeway and Lakewood Boulevard.
The California Highway Patrol said a 2018 Tesla, driven by a 78-year-old man, was traveling on the southbound lanes when it hit a raised concrete curb at the end of the Lakewood Boulevard on-ramp. The Tesla then swerved onto the right shoulder and collided with an unoccupied 2011 Chevrolet on the San Diego 405 Freeway.
The impact of the crash caused Blankenfeld, a rear passenger in the Tesla, to be ejected into the Freeway, where she was struck by a BMW which was driven by 54-year-old Long Beach woman.
Blankenfeld was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
The driver of the Tesla and a 73-year-old female passenger both from San Clemente sustained minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene.
No other injuries were reported in the crash.
The crash is still under investigation.
