1 Killed and Another Injured in Santa Rosa 3-Car Crash on Highway 101
Santa Rosa, California (November 24, 2017) – Juanita Santana, 36, was identified as the woman who was killed in a traffic accident, which left one other person injured, on Wednesday, November 15.
According to a statement by the CHP, the accident was reported on Highway 101 near the Steele Lane entrance ramp.
Santana and her passenger, Angelica Cardiel, were traveling southbound when for unknown reasons, she lost control of her 1999 Mercedes-Benz which ended up striking the center median and blocked some lanes of the roadway.
After the crash, the two women exited the vehicle to inspect it. A short time later, a 2002 Honda Civic operated by 55-year-old Gregory Hernandez hit the Mercedes. The impact of the collision pushed the Mercedes into both women.
A third vehicle operated by Gabriel Zaragoza crashed into the Honda a short time later.
Officials responding to the incident had to extricate Santana who was pinned beneath the Mercedes. The two women sustained major injuries and were taken to a local hospital for treatment. Sadly, Santana succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday, November 21.
Fernandez is reported to have fled the scene of the accident on foot but was later apprehended.
No further information was provided.
