1 Killed and 3 Injured in Newman Chain-Reaction Collision on I-5 Freeway
Newman, California (November 15, 2017) – Glenn Coutts, 72, of Jacksonville, Oregon, was killed in a multi-vehicle collision in Newman, which left three other people injured on Sunday, November 12.
The fatal accident occurred on the Interstate 5 Freeway near Orestimba Road at about 5:30 p.m.
According to the CHP, Orin Cassellius, 53, had been driving his 2001 Ford at an unsafe speed when he came upon slow moving traffic on the road. The driver was unable to brake in time to avoid a collision and rear-ended a Toyota operated by the deceased.
The collision triggered a series of other collisions. A total of seven vehicles were involved in the pileup.
Coutts sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Doctors Medical Center located in Modesto where he succumbed to his injuries.
Three other people, Robert Andriese, and her passenger Samantha Andriese, and another driver identified as Bryan Anderson were injured in the collision and were hospitalized.
An investigation into the collision is ongoing.
