1 Killed and 2 Injured in Hayward Car Crash on 880 Freeway near Winton Avenue
Hayward, California (December 26, 2017) – Andrew Camilerri, a 33-year-old California Highway Patrol officer, was killed in a traffic collision in Hayward on Sunday, December 24.
According to a report by the CHP, the two-vehicle collision occurred on the southbound lanes of the 880 Freeway in the area of Winton Avenue and Highway at about 12 a.m.
As per the report, Camilleri and another officer were on duty and were inside a patrol car which was parked on the shoulder of the highway. The patrol car was then struck by a passing red Cadillac.
Camilleri was killed in the collision.
The second officer was hospitalized with minor injuries.
The 22-year-old driver of the Cadillac sustained major injuries in the crash and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Although an investigation into the crash is yet to be concluded, the driver of the Cadillac is believed to have been driving under the influence of Marijuana and alcohol.
