Alma Vasquez and Angel Garcia ID’d as Two Killed in Oakland Pedestrian Crash on 26th Avenue and Foothill Boulevard
Oakland, California (April 15, 2019) – Police officers have identified the mother and her son killed in a hit-and-run crash on Saturday evening in Oakland as Alma Vasquez, 30, and Angel Garcia, 6, according to authorities.
The crash took place at about 7:20 p.m. April 13, on the intersection of 26th Avenue and Foothill Boulevard.
Police said Vasquez, Garcia and the boy’s uncle, a 20-year-old Oakland man were heading for a laundromat in the area. They entered a marked crosswalk at the intersection when they were hit by a two-door black Mercedes heading westbound on Foothill.
Vasquez and Garcia were taken to the Hospital where they later succumbed to their injuries. The 20-year-old man suffered severe injuries and was hospitalized in critical condition.
The driver of the Mercedes fled from the scene of the crash immediately after the accident. The suspect vehicle was later located abandoned in another area of Oakland.
Police said one person was arrested following the crash.
The investigation is still ongoing .
