Alexis Martinez and Christopher Carmona Critically Injured in Ceres Minivan Crash on Highway 99
Ceres, California (June 12, 2019) – 12-year-old Alexis Martinez and 5-year-old Christopher Carmona have been identified as two of the six children injured after a minivan crash Monday afternoon in Ceres, according to authorities.
The crash happened a while after 1:30 p.m. June 10, on Highway 99 near Service Road.
As per the CHP officials, a minivan operated by a 32-year-old Benigno Martinez Diaz with nine occupants’ rear-ended a Chevrolet Tahoe at about 45 mph in stop-and-go traffic through Ceres. The initial report showed that the minivan had a capacity of only eight passengers.
Responding emergency crews confirmed that a total of six children suffered injuries as a result of the crash. At least three of the kids suffered severe injuries and were not wearing seat belts at the time.
Two 8-year-old kids sustained minor wounds while Martinez and Carmon suffered severe head injuries. They were both flown to children’s hospitals for treatment. The other two kids sustained unspecified injuries in the wreck. Diaz suffered minor injuries and was wearing a seat belt.
One of the two female parties involved suffered severe injuries while the other one sustained minor hurts due to the crash. 61-year-old Joseph Volk of Georgia, the Chevrolet driver, was wearing a seat belt and was unhurt in the crash
