3 Killed in Santa Maria 2-Car Crash on Highway 199 at Bell Drive
Santa Maria, California (December 5, 2017) – Alejandro Santiago, 19, Robert Swarens, 61, and Denise Courtis, 54, were killed in a head-on collision in Santa Maria on Sunday, December 3.
The accident occurred in the area of State Route 166 and Bell Drive near New Cuyama at about 4:17 p.m.
According to a report by the CHP, Santiago was driving a Ford Escape westbound on Highway 199 when for unknown reasons, her vehicle veered across the centerline into the opposite lanes and collided head-on with an oncoming Ford Explorer operated Courtis.
Santiago, a resident of Santa Maria, was killed in the collision.
Courtis, a resident of Citrus Heights, and the Bakersfield woman who was a passenger in his car, were also killed in the crash.
An investigation is ongoing.
